ABOUT:
West Side Poetry Slam is a monthly open mic night where you can sign up on the night and perform an original piece of writing to open minds, hearts, and arms. Audience members score with a fun line of feedback and you could win a support feature slot at the next slam. Other performance art forms are also welcome. Anything can be poetry.
FEATURE - Olly Moore
Olly Moore is a spoken word poet, lapsed lawyer and entertainer with classical good looks (yes, his suggested inclusion). Olly has a background in sketch comedy and general buffoonery before he joined the poetry community, shooting to fame as part of ‘After All’, the winning team at Bankstown Poetry Slam Grand Slam. After All also performed together at the Sydney Fringe Festival, where they were shortlisted for Best Spoken Word event. Olly will be performing the comic, the tragic, the empowering and the political. In his poetry, he draws on his lives as a disability and mental health advocate, queer badass, and well-regarded academic, aiming to deliver a blockbusting, mind-blowing, heart-stopping performance, rated by himself as a ‘not to be missed’. His talent for hyperbole is matched only by his passion for the spoken word. He really hopes he can live up to this bio.
SUPPORT FEATURE - London
London is a Lebanese-Romanian teen who has been writing poetry since she was 13. She published her first book “the words for us” at 16 and now at 17 is working on her second book. London draws on her experiences around mental health to write moving and relatable poetry.
